Dominique Brun

French judoka

Dominique Maaoui-Brun (born 7 May 1964) is a French judoka in the -52 kg category, and local politician. She competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics, winning the silver medal, where judo was for women a demonstration sport, in the half-lightweight event.

Career change

At the 1987 World Judo Championships she became world champion, and in 1986 she won the silver medal.[1] At the European Judo Championships she became European Champion in 1986 and 1987, won the silver medal in 1989 and the bronze medal in 1988.[2] At national championships she became three times national champion and won two bronze medals.

After her career, she joined the French Judo Federation to coach the French junior team, training athletes including Séverine Vandenhende, 2000 Olympic champion.[3]

She returned to Périgord and worked as a sports teacher. She became a politician, becoming deputy mayor of Mareuil-sur-Belle in 2010, and appeared on the candidate list of the Socialist Party of Alain Rousset in the 2010 Aquitaine regional elections.[3]
