Don Bacon (microbiologist)

New Zealand microbiologist

Donald Frederick Bacon (6 April 1926 – 28 August 2020) was a New Zealand microbiologist. In 1966, he was appointed the inaugural professor of microbiology at Massey University, where he remained until his retirement in 1989. Bacon was born in Gisborne, New Zealand. He was known for his works relating to the genetics of E. coli and associated bacteriophages. He retired in 1989.

Bacon died in Palmerston North, New Zealand on 28 August 2020 at the age of 94.[1]
