Donbas
industrial region in southeastern Ukraine and southwestern Russia
The Donbas or Donbass (UK: /dɒnˈbɑːs/,[1] US: /ˈdɑːnbɑːs, dʌnˈbæs/;[2][3] Ukrainian: Донба́с [donˈbɑs];[4] Russian: Донба́сс) is a historical, cultural, and economic region between Russia and Ukraine, who are fighting each other over who owns the region in the Russo-Ukrainian War. It includes the Donetsk Oblast and Luhansk Oblast.
The word Donbas is a portmanteau word made from Donets Basin, an abbreviation of "Donets Coal Basin".[5]
