Elbert Roest
Elbert Jan Roest (born October 13, 1954 in Hoogezand) is a Dutch politician of Democrats 66 (D66). He is also a historian and a former teacher.

He has started his political career in the municipality of Doesburg (province of Gelderland). In this city he was a councillor and an alderman, from 1992 to 2002.
Afterwards he became mayor in Laren (province of North Holland). Since September 2017 he has been mayor of Bloemendaal (also in North Holland).
Roest studied history at the University of Groningen, and worked several years as a history teacher. Furthermore he was involved in examination development, the so-called CITO.
He is a member of the European Association of History Educators (EUROCLIO), and participates in history writing about Balkan and former Soviet countries.
