Elizabeth (biblical figure)
Mother of John the Baptist and the wife of Zacharias/Zachary, according to the Gospel of Luke
Elizabeth (also spelled Elisabeth) was the mother of John the Baptist. She was the wife of Zechariah.
The angel Gabriel said to Zechariah that Elizabeth would have a son. Zechariah did not believe that his wife could have a son, because she was old. The angel made him mute (unable to speak). Elizabeth then became pregnant.
