Evelyn Baring, 1st Earl of Cromer

British statesman, diplomat and colonial administrator (1841-1917)

Evelyn Baring was also known as Lord Cromer. He was the British High Commissioner who served in Egypt from 1883-1907. He was in charge of extending British influence in the Middle Eastern area and making the British position in the Suez Canal zone stronger.[1]

Lord Cromer opposed any type of Egyptian nationalism.[2]
