Faustina the Younger

Roman Empress and wife to Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius

Faustina was the wife of Marcus Aurelius. She was likely born on 16th February, around the year 130. She died in the year 176, in Halala, Kappadokia, the modern-day city of Faustinopolis. She is usually called Faustina the Younger, her mother was Faustina the Elder. Her father was the Roman emperor Antoninus Pius. Together with her husband, she had up to 14 children. Few lived to reach adulthood. Her daughter Annia Aurelia Galeria Lucilla was given as a wife to Lucius Verus, who reigned with Marcus Aurelius. The best-known child of the couple likely was the future emperor Commodus.
