Deutsch: Modell der Feinstruktur eines Chromosoms.

Typisches Lehrbuchbild des Chromosomenaufbaus mit typischen Fehlern.

Dargestellt im Zellkern (Nucleus) sind Metaphasechromosomen; doch während der Prometaphase zerfällt die Kernhülle bei mehrzelligen Tieren, auch beim Menschen. In der Interphase dagegen liegen die Chromosomen dekondensiert in Territorien vor. Das Telomer ist per Definition das Ende eines Chromosoms; daher kann aus ihm keine weitere Fortsetzung der Chromatinfiber mehr hervorkommen (geschweige denn eine, die nicht die Telomer-DNA-Sequenz enthält). Die 10 nm Fiber entsteht aus DNA durch sehr gleichförmige Wicklungen um Histone in den Nucleosomen. Die Verdichtung oder Wendelung zur nächsthöheren Faltungsstruktur, der 30 nm Fiber, ist noch nicht vollständig geklärt, noch weniger sind es die höherer Strukturebenen der Kondensation.
