Deutsch: „Das Wappen ist gespalten von Grün und Silber, vorn übereinander zwei silberne Wale, hinten ein wachsender roter Leuchtturm über fünf blauen gleichlaufenden Wellenlinien; auf dem Turm eine schwarze Bake; oberhalb des Schildes ein goldenes Band mit schwarzer Inschrift: MEDIIS TRANQUILLUS IN UNDIS (= ruhig inmitten der Wogen).“ Das Wappen wurde 1951 verliehen. Darin symbolisieren die Wale den früher bedeutenden Walfang. Der Leuchtturm ist der alte Leuchtturm von Borkum und die Wellen deuten auf die Nordsee. Der Leuchtturm geht auf ein altes Kirchensiegel zurück, das auch in die Borkumer Flagge aufgenommen wurde. Die Farben Grün und Weiß im vorderen Schildteil sind zweifellos den Farben der Flagge entliehen, denn die Flagge gab es schon 20 Jahre früher. Sie wurde am 28. September 1929 festgelegt und am 31. Juli 1930 erstmals am Borkumer Strand gehißt.
English: „Borkum is an island, which became an official city in 1950. The arms were granted in 1951 and symbolise the whaling, which was very important in the last centuries, and the lighthouse standing above the North Sea.“
