Object history
Deutsch: Die Figuren im Schild, drei Bäume für Wald- und drei Türme für -thurn ergeben ein vollständig für den Ortsnamen redendes Bild. Auch die Herren von Waldthurn, die von 1217 bis 1308 als Inhaber der Herrschaft Waldthurn nachweisbar sind, führten einen Zinnenturm als sprechendes Motiv in ihrem Familienwappen. Den Turm übernahmen auch ihre Besitznachfolger nach 1308, die Herren von Waldau (zu Waldthurn), die die Herrschaft 1540 an die Wirsberger verkauften. Waldthurn ist erstmals 1527 als Markt belegt. Das heutige Wappenmotiv erscheint erstmals in einem Siegel, das in der Umschrift die Jahreszahl 1649 und die Bezeichnung �Consulatus� trägt. Die Siegel des 19. Jahrhunderts zeigen das Gemeindewappen unverändert, in der heraldischen Literatur taucht das Wappen erst 1898 auf.
