Object history
Deutsch: Wirsberg wurde Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts als Markt bezeichnet. Er gehörte zur Herrschaft Plassenburg und kam 1340 von den Grafen von Orlamünde an die Burggrafen von Nürnberg. Aus dem Jahr 1577 ist das Wappen auf einem Marktsiegel mit der Jahreszahl 1562 überliefert, ebenso auf einem Amtssiegel von 1635 und an einem Taufstein der Kirche von 1647. Die Vierung von Silber und Schwarz erinnert an die Landesherrschaft der Burggrafen von Nürnberg und späteren Markgrafen von Brandenburg-Bayreuth. Die Herkunft der Rosen ist unklar. Eine farbige Zeichnung von 1581 weicht deutlich von den Bildsiegeln ab. In Feld 2 und 3 steht die Zollernvierung; in 1 auf grünem Boden ein grüner Baum, in 4 ein ansteigender, natürlicher Felsberg in Blau, wohl redend für den Ortsnamen. Zwei Abbildungen von 1812 und 1889 lehnen sich an einer alten Malerei am Rathaus an. Sie zeigen in 1 einen schwarzen Adler in Gold, in 2 und 3 eine goldene Rose in Schwarz, in 4 die Buchstaben B und W in Silber. Bei der Wappenrevision von 1819 gab es keine Einwände zur Fortführung des alten Wappens, nur die Zollernvierung zeigte nun die bayerischen Landesfarben Silber und Blau.
