In the foreground a cloverleaf junction links the A26 Autostrada dei Trafori (left-to-right) to the national roads SS34 del Lago Maggiore (towards the camera) and the SR229 (shortly to become the SS229 del Lago d'Orta) (away from the camera). The stream on the left of the picture is the Strona which flows towards us from Lago d’Orta and joins the Toce (visible at the bottom of the image, flowing right-to-left towards Lago Maggiore) just out of shot.
