Summary

Description

Seattle trolleybus 643 was built in 1940 by Twin Coach. Originally numbered 905, it was renumbered 643 in 1963 but was retired and donated to a museum in 1965. However, it was re-acquired and returned to service in 1976, renumbered 622. Retired again in January 1978, it was renumbered back to 643 in 1982 when initial restoration work took place. In the late 1980s, it was fully restored to operating condition by volunteers from the Metro Employees Historic Vehicle Association (composed mostly of employees of the Metro Transit, now King County Metro). It began making occasional public excursions on the Seattle trolleybus system in April 1990. This photo was taken during one such excursion, and in this photo No. 643 is eastbound on South Main Street between 2nd and 3rd avenues in downtown Seattle. It has just passed a westbound streetcar on the Waterfront Streetcar line (which had been newly extended to this location during the previous month).

In July 2018, it was renumbered back to its original fleet number, 905. It wears the paint scheme that was the Seattle Transit System's standard livery from 1955–1968.
