GMB (trade union)

General trade union in the United Kingdom

The GMB is a general trade union in the United Kingdom which has more than 560,000 members. They work in many different industries - in retail, security, schools, distribution, the utilities, social care, the National Health Service, ambulance service and local government.

It was made in 1982 when the National Union of General and Municipal Workers joined with the Amalgamated Society of Boilermakers, Shipwrights, Blacksmiths and Structural Workers. Lots of smaller unions have joined it. [1]

It is one of the three largest unions in the Labour Party.
