Henry Emeleus

British igneous petrologist (1930-2017)

Charles Henry Emeleus (4 September 1930 – 11 November 2017) was a British geologist. He was born in Belfast, England. He specialized in the Tertiary volcanic rocks of Britain and Greenland. Emeleus was a highly capable petrologist.[1] The mineral emeleusite, a colourless sodium silicate, is named after Emeleus.[2] In 2016, he received the Prestwich Medal.

Emeleus died on 11 November 2017 in Durham, England at the age of 87.[3]
