Herbert Wiegand

German biathlete

Herbert Wiegand (born 10 October 1949) is a former German biathlete. Wiegand represented East Germany at international competitions.

Bronze medal – third place 1973 Lake Placid 4 × 7.5 km relay

He won at the Biathlon World Championships 1973 the bronze medal in the 4 × 7.5 km relay event. He became national champion in 1972 in the individual and relay events. At the national championships he also won silver medals in the relay event in 1971 and 1974.[1]

Wiegand was a member of the Großbreitenbach Ski Club (Großbreitenbacher Skiverein).[2]

After his career he became from 1976 trainer in cross-country skiing and biathlon. He was the trainer of among others Carola Anding who the gold medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics in the 4 × 5 kilometre relay event.[1] He is an official at WSV Oberhof 05 [de].[3]
