First Nations leader and co-founder of the Iroquois League

Hiawatha (/ˌhaɪəˈwɒθə/ HY-ə-WOTH-ə, also US: /-ˈwɔːθə/ -⁠WAW-thə: Haiëñ'wa'tha [hajẽʔwaʔtha]) was a legendary Native American leader. According to stories, he was one of the founders of the Iroquois Confederacy. He was leader of the Onondaga people and the Mohawk people. A famous account of Hiawatha is in the The Song of Hiawatha.
