The term highland or upland is used to mean any mountainous region or elevated mountainous plateau. Generally speaking, upland (or uplands) means ranges of hills, typically up to 500-600 meters (1,600-2,000 feet). Highland (or highlands) usually is used to mean ranges of low mountains.
