Hindenburg Line

fortified line of World War I

The Hindenburg Line or Siegfried Position (German: Siegfriedstellung) was a system of forts built by the German Empire along the Western Front (World War I) during the winter of 1916-1917 to defend against France. After the war, the French built the similar but more elaborate Maginot Line to defend against Germany.
