an attended or an unattended childbirth in a non-clinical setting
When a woman gives birth at the place where she lives, this is called a home birth. This was the norm, until the middle of the 19th century. The term was coined at that time, as births began to take place in hospitals.[1]
A midwife will usually help the woman giving birth.
