The iPhone (also called the first-generation iPhone,[1] iPhone (original),[2] iPhone 2G, and iPhone 1) was the first smartphone made by Apple, Inc. It was announced on January 9, 2007, and released on June 29, 2007.[3] It changed the mobile phone industry, being the first phone to have a multi-touch screen. It succeeded the line of touchscreen phones by Apple.

Compared to other phones at the time, the iPhone had a much larger screen and removed most buttons, leaving only a home button to take you to the home screen.[source?]
3G version
changeOn June 9, 2008, Apple announced a version of the iPhone which featured slightly improved hardware, GPS, and 3G functionality.[4]
