Issa J. Boullata
Palestinian scholar and writer (1929–2019)
Issa J. Boullata (Arabic: عيسى بُلاطه; February 25, 1929 – May 1, 2019) was a Palestinian scholar and writer. He was noted for his translation of Arabic writing. He was professor of Arabic literature and language at Hartford Theological Seminary (Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.) from 1968 to 1975, and McGill University (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) from 1975 to 1999. He was a two-time winner of the Arabic Translation Award by the University of Arkansas Press in 1993 and 1997.[1]
Boullata was born in Jerusalem. He was a Palestinian Arab and Orthodox Christian. He was married to Marita Seward. The couple had three children.[1] Boullata died on May 4, 2019 in Montreal, at the age of 90.[2]
