Ivan Charota

Belarusian translator, specialist in literature and literary critic

Ivan Alexeyevich Charota (16 September 1952 – 7 November 2024) was a Belarusian literary critic, academic historian and translator. He was a Laureate of the Republic of Belarus Prize for Spiritual Revival. He was also a foreign member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts from 2009, until his death.[1] He became a member of the Association of Writers of Serbia in 1985. Charota was born in Kobryn District, then-Soviet Union. His best known works were Anthology of Belarusian poetry (1993, 2012), Anthology of Belarusian Christian poetry (2001) and Belarus and Serbia (2016).

Charota died on 7 November 2024, at the age of 72.[2]
