Jenő Buzánszky

Hungarian footballer (1925-2015)

Jenő Buzánszky (4 May 1925 – 11 January 2015) was a Hungarian footballer and coach. Buzánszky played as a right back for Hungary. During the 1950s he was a member of the legendary Hungarian national team known as the Mighty Magyars. He was the only member of the team not to play for either Honvéd or MTK Hungária FC. After 330 league games he retired as a player and became a coach. In 1996 he became a deputy chairman of the Hungarian Football Federation. He played as right-back. During 1950's he was member of the Legendary Hungarian national team known as the Mighty Magyars. Buzánszky was considered as one of the best right-backs in Europe during the 1950's. He had pretty solid technique and also great discipline which made him an efficient full back in defence.

Club career change

He was born on May 4, 1925 in the city of Dombovar. Pupil of the youth team of the football club "Dombovari Voshutos".

He made his debut in adult football in 1946 playing for the Pécs team, in which he spent one season. In 1947 he moved to Dorog, where he played 13 seasons. Most of the time he spent with the Road, he was the main player in the team's defense. He finished his professional football career with performances for the Dorog team in 1960.


International career change

In 1950, he made his debut in official matches as part of the Hungarian national team. During his career in the national team, he played 48 matches in its uniform. As part of the national team, he participated in the football tournament at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, winning the title of Olympic champion that year. As part of the national team, he participated in the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland, where he played against South Korea (9–0), with West Germany (8–3), in the quarterfinals with Brazil (4–2), in the semifinals with Uruguay (4–2) and in the final with West Germany (2–3).


Managerial career change

He began his coaching career shortly after the end of his playing career, in 1961, heading the coaching staff of the Dorog club. During his coaching career, he also headed the teams "Esztergomi Vošos" and "Fošped Sallitok". The last place of coaching work was the Dorog club, the head coach of the team of which Jene Buzanski was from 1971 to 1978.


Death change

He died on January 11, 2015 at the age of 90 in Esztergom. He was the last surviving player of the legendary Hungarian "golden team", coached by Gustav Szebes. He was buried in the Cathedral of the Basilica of St. Stephen.
