55th governor of Kentucky

John Young Brown Jr. (December 28, 1933 – November 22, 2022) is an American politician, entrepreneur, and businessman from the U.S. state of Kentucky. He served as the 55th governor of Kentucky from 1979 to 1983,[1] although he may be best known for building Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) into a multimillion-dollar restaurant chain.[2]

Brown died at a hospital in Lexington on November 22, 2022, at age 88.[3] He had been dealing with health complications derived from COVID-19 since the summer.[4][5] His casket lay in state in the Kentucky Capitol's rotunda for two days starting on November 29, 2022.[6][7] His funeral was held at the Kentucky Capitol on November 30.[8][9] Brown would be buried in the Lexington Cemetery.[8]
