Kim Tschang-yeul

South Korean artist

Kim Tschang Yeul (also known as "김창열","Kim Tchangyeul", "Kim Chang Yeul", or "Tschangyeul Kim"; 24 December 1929 – 5 January 2021) was a South Korean painter. He was born in Maengsan, South Pyongan.[1] Many of his works were surrealism and about spirituality.

In 2016, the government of Jeju Province opened the Kim Tschang Yeul Art Museum in Artists' Village in Jeoji, Jeju island, South Korea. It was the highest honor given to a living Korean artist.[2]

In 2017, he was awarded the Officier medal of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Embassy of France in Seoul.

Kim died on 5 January 2021 in Seoul at the age of 91.[3]
