Lake Kuttara

Lake Kuttara (倶多楽湖, Kuttara-ko) is a caldera lake in Shiraoi, Hokkaidō, Japan.[1] It is part of Shikotsu-Tōya National Park. The lake is said to have the best water quality in all of Japan.[2] The Ministry of the Environment says that it has a transparency of 19 metres (62 ft), so it is the second clearest lake (Lake Mashū is the clearest).

A salamander species, Ezo salamander (エゾサンショウウオ, Ezo Sanshōuo), lives at the lake. Since 1909, Sockeye salmon have been sent to the lake.
