Leona Helmsley
American hotel owner (1920–2007)
Leona Helmsley (July 4, 1920 – August 20, 2007) was an American businesswoman. She was known for having a flamboyant personality. She had a reputation for tyrannical behavior; she was nicknamed the Queen of Mean.[1]
She owned many hotels, apartment buildings and condominiums.
Helmsley was found guilty in 1989 of tax evasion, false personal tax returns and mail fraud.[2] She served some time in prison for the crimes.
Helmsley was born in Marbletown, New York. She died from heart failure at age 87 in Greenwich, Connecticut.[3]
