Lucifer Samael Morningstar is a fictional character from the DC Comics universe, created by Neil Gaiman for his comic book The Sandman and is also in a spin-off comic book called Lucifer. He's based on Satan in The Bible.

Fictional character biography

Lucifer Morningstar is a powerful rebel Demiurgic Archangel who was once given Hell as his own domain. After eons of ruling, he decided he no longer wanted to do what he believed was expected of him, and so he abandoned Hell and "retired" to Earth.

Powers and abilities

Lucifer possesses superhuman strength, able to easily throw adult men long distances or lift them several feet in the air by the neck with one hand, even if they are much larger than himself. He can also punch through brick walls and hold an accelerating car still, though he must be adequately braced for the latter.

Lucifer made his live-action debut when Swedish actor Peter Stormare portrayed him in the movie Constantine (2005), while an alternate version was portrayed by Welsh actor Tom Ellis in the Fox/Netflix series Lucifer (2016–2021) and the Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths (2020). English actress Gwendoline Christie portrays a third version of the character in the Netflix series The Sandman (2022–present).
