The bi-cameral Legislature of the State of Maine

The Maine State Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Maine. It is a bicameral body made of the lower house Maine House of Representatives and the upper house Maine Senate. The legislature meets at the State House in Augusta, where it has met since 1832.

The House of Representatives has 151 members. The House is uniquely the only state legislative body in the U.S. to have special seats for American Indians.[1] They represent the Penobscot Nation, the Passamaquoddy Tribe, and the Houlton Band of Maliseets.[2] The Senate currently has 35 members.
