Maj Sjöwall

Swedish writer (1935–2020)

Maj Sjöwall (25 September 1935 – 29 April 2020) was a Swedish author and translator. She was born in Stockholm. She was best known for the work with her partner Per Wahlöö on a series of ten novels about the adventures of Martin Beck, a police detective in Stockholm. They also wrote novels separately.[1]

In 1971, the fourth of the Beck books, The Laughing Policeman won an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for Best Novel and was made into the movie The Laughing Policeman.

Sjöwall died on 29 April 2020 at a hospital in Landskrona, Sweden of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, aged 84.[2]
