Maria Janion

Polish scholar, critic and theoretician

Maria Janion (24 December 1926 – 23 August 2020) was a Polish scholar, critic and theoretician of literature. She was a Professor at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences.[1]

Janion was also a member of the Polish Academy of Learning. She has an honorary degree of the Gdańsk University. Between the years 1948 to 1978 she was an active member of Polish United Workers' Party.
