Marta Becket

American ballet dancer (1924-2017)

Marta Becket (August 9, 1924 – January 30, 2017) was an dancer, choreographer and painter. She was born in New York City. She performed for more than 40 years at her own theater, the Amargosa Opera House in Death Valley Junction, California.[1][2] She retired in 2012.

The 2000 documentary movie about Becket's life, Amargosa won a 2003 Emmy Award for cinematographer Curt Apduhan, in addition to the movie's numerous festival awards and nominations.[3]

Becket died on January 30, 2017 at her home in Death Valley Junction, California from congestive heart failure, aged 92.[4]
