change

The center was established in 1971 by Martha Heasley Cox, a professor of English at San José State University, with the mission to preserve and promote the study of Steinbeck’s works. Over the years, it has become a hub for scholars, educators, and readers interested in Steinbeck’s contributions to literature and culture.[3][4]

In 1998, the center was officially named after its founder in recognition of her significant contributions to its development.
