Mesothelioma

A type of cancer that develops from the thin layer of tissue that covers many of the internal organs (known as the mesothelium)

Mesothelioma is a cancer of the mesothelial tissue, a membrane that surrounds several cavities inside of the human body, including the lungs[1]. Although mesothelioma has many possible causes, most cases can be traced to asbestos exposure.[2]

Mesothelioma is a deadly form of cancer.[3] It is different from asbestosis, another disease caused by asbestos. Mesothelioma has been the subject of many lawsuits.[4]
