Michael Augustine
Catholic archbishop (1933–2017)
Monsignor Michael Augustine (12 June 1933 – 4 November 2017) was an Indian archbishop (emeritus) of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Pondicherry and Cuddalore from 1999 through 2004. He served as Bishop of Vellore from 1981 through 1992.
He served the Church for 39 years as a bishop and for 56 years as a priest. He was born in Kovilanoor, Tamil Nadu. He resigned in 2004 due to health problems along with Pope John Paul II accepting his resignation. Since 2004 until his death, Augustine held the title of Emeritus Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore.
Augustine died on 4 November 2017 at a hospital in Pondicherry, India of a heart attack at the age of 84.[1]
