Mike Colter (born August 26, 1976) is an American actor known for his roles in television and film, particularly for portraying Luke Cage in the Marvel Television series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Early life

Mike Colter was born on August 26, 1976, in Columbia, South Carolina. He attended the University of South Carolina, where he earned a degree in acting, and later obtained a Master of Fine Arts from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Career

Colter gained fame as Luke Cage in the Netflix series Jessica Jones, where he first appeared in 2015. He then starred in his own series, Luke Cage, which ran for two seasons from 2016 to 2018. He also appeared in the Marvel crossover miniseries The Defenders.

Prior to his breakout role as Luke Cage, Colter appeared in several television shows, including The Good Wife, South Carolina, and Wayward Pines. He also had a role in the film The Man from Earth.

After his work with Marvel, Colter has continued to work in both film and television. He starred in the CBS series Evil, which premiered in 2019 and explores themes of faith, science, and the supernatural.
