Moktar Ali Zubeyr

Leader of Harakat Al-Shabaab Mujahideen, Somali insurgent group (1977-2014)

Moktar Ali Zubeyr (Somali: Mukhtaar Cali Zuubeyr, Arabic: مختار علي الزبير), born Ahmed Abdi aw-Mohamed; 10 July 1977 – 1 September 2014), also known as "Godane", was a Somali Islamist terrorist. He was the Emir of al-Shabaab from 2009 until 2010 and again from 2011 until his death. The group is known to have ties with terror group al-Qaeda. He got training and fought in Afghanistan.

Zubeyr was born in Hargeisa, Woqooyi Galbeed.

Zubeyr was killed in a U.S. drone airstrike on 1 September 2014 in Hawaay. His death was later confirmed by the Pentagon during the NATO summit in Wales on 6 September.[1]
