Newton Moore
eighth Premier of Western Australia (1870-1936)
Sir Newton James Moore (17 May 1870 – 28 October 1936) was the 8th Premier of Western Australia from 7 May 1906 until 16 September 1910.[1] He became the premier when Rason resigned. He resigned as premier in 1910 and moved to London to become agent-general for Western Australia.[2] During World War I he joined the Australian Army as an officer. After the war he was elected to the British House of Commons, taking over former Australian Prime Minister Sir George Reid's seat. In his first speech to the parliament he said that women should be able to become members of parliament.[2]
