Ni Zhen
Chinese screenwriter and professor (1938-2022)
Ni Zhen (18 July 1938 – 22 December 2022) was a Chinese screenwriter and professor.[1][2]

As screenwriter, Ni was most known for his work on the 1991 film Raise the Red Lantern. Although the screenplay was approved by Chinese censors,[3] the final version of the film was banned in China for a period.[4][5] The film is widely considered as one of the best Chinese films.[1]
Ni was professor at the Beijing Film University.[2]

Though Zhang's screenplay for RAISE THE RED LANTERN ... got a stamp of approval from the Chinese censors, the finished production was banned at home while playing to great praise abroad.
