Norbert Blüm

German politician and minister, CDU (1935–2020)

Norbert Blüm (21 July 1935 – 23 April 2020)[1][2][3][4] was a German politician. He was federal legislator from North Rhine-Westphalia, chairman of the CDU North Rhine-Westphalia (1987–1999), and minister of labor and social affairs from 1982 to 1988. His slogan "The pension is safe" ("Die Rente ist sicher") has been remembered.[5] He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1972 to 1981 and from 1983 to 2002.

Blüm was born in Rüsselsheim am Main, then Nazi Germany. Due to a sepsis he was paralyzed in arms and legs since 2019.[6] He died on 23 April 2020 in Bonn, Germany at the age of 84.[7][8]
