Oswald Maes

Oswaeld Maes (13 August 1934 – 21 November 2024) was a Belgian television actor.

In 1991 he played the role of Pastor Gantois in the miniseries De bossen van Vlaanderen [nl]. His best-known role was that of playing Rogerke Van De Wiele [nl] in the soap series Thuis he played eight seasons from 1996 to 2003. He also played in Spoed (Renaat), Aspe [nl] (Gust Peeters), Het Veenmysterie [nl], Gouden Jaren and other series.[1][2][3]

Maes was also a director. Next to that he was a drama teacher at the municipal conservatory in Bruges and a lecturer at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent. He was the teacher of among others anchor Martine Tanghe [nl], actress Ingrid De Vos [nl] and actor Kurt Rogiers [nl].[1]

In 2005 he received the "Cultuurtrofee" (translated: Cultural Trophy) from the municipality of Zonnebeke in recognition of his works.[4]

Maes died in the residential care center in Bruges where he has been staying for the last 2 years of his life on 21 November 2024, at the age of 90 years old.[1][2][3]

Maes was the father of actor Jeroen Maes [nl].[1]
