political and religious group in Palestine

The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement Arabic: حركة المجاهدين الفلسطينية, romanized: Haraka al-Mujahideen al-Filistynya)[a] is one of the most prominent Islamic armed resistance factions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.[1][2] The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement was founded in 2001 as military groups known as the Mujahideen Battalion,[verification needed] led by founder Omar Abu Sharia, at the beginning of the Second Palestinian Uprising (also known as the Al-Aqsa Intifada).[3][4]

They broke away from the Fatah movement the along with their military wing, the Mujahideen Brigades. The Mujahideen Brigades (Arabic: كتائب المجاهدين, romanized: Kataeb Mujahideen) were known as the the Martyr Jamal Al-Amari Brigade when they were part of Fatah's Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades,[b]

Their current Secretary General (as of 2023) is Asaad Abu Sharia (أسعد أبو شريعة).[5]
