Paterson is a city in and the county seat of Passaic County, New Jersey, United States. It is located in the New York City Metropolitan Area. Alexander Hamilton and several other men started the town in 1791 to build watermills. As of the 2010 United States Census, its population was 146,199. Former New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg and U.S Representative Bill Pascrell were born there.
