Rebecca Smith
Rebecca Smith is a swimmer from Canada. Smith competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She was born on 14 March 2000.[2]
Career
changeAt the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, Smith was part of the team that won bronze in the 4×100 metre mixed medley. Later that year, at the World Junior Swimming Championships in Indianapolis, she helped her team win gold in the 4×200 metre freestyle, breaking the junior world record and championship record.
In September 2017, Smith was named to Canada's team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
In 2019, Smith joined the International Swimming League (ISL), swimming for the Energy Standard International Swim Club, which won the team title in Las Vegas. In 2020, she signed with the Toronto Titans, the first Canadian team in the ISL.
In June 2021, Smith qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics. She won a silver medal in the 4×100 metre freestyle relay with teammates Kayla Sanchez, Maggie Mac Neil, and Penny Oleksiak.
At the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, Smith swam in the heats for the 4×100 metre freestyle relay. She did not swim in the final but still earned a silver medal as part of the team. She also swam in the heats for the 4×200 metre freestyle relay, helping her team reach the final, and shared in their bronze medal win. Later that summer, at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she won a bronze medal in the mixed 4×100 metre freestyle relay and another bronze in the women's 4×100 metre freestyle relay. She also won a silver medal in the 4×100 metre mixed medley relay.
In 2023, Smith focused on completing her nursing degree at the University of Calgary and did not compete internationally. However, she was named to Canada's team for the 2024 World Aquatics Championships in Doha, seeing it as a step towards the Olympic trials. On the first day of finals, she helped Canada win a bronze medal in the 4×100 metre freestyle relay and another bronze in the 4×100 metre medley relay, swimming the butterfly leg.
