History

change

The church was built in 1937 under de name "Gereformeerde kerk".[1] It was a brick hall church on a cross-shaped plan, covered by high gable roofs and initially with a ridge turret. The front facade showed some influence of the Amsterdam School and was designed by Johan Dalmolen and M. van de Veen. The organ was built in 1970-1971 by the firm Bernard Koch & Zoon in Apeldoorn.[2] The building was renovated and enlarged in 1965 and 2000. In 2001 the church received the name 'Regenboogkerk'. In 2004 there was a there was a merger by the Protestant Church in the Netherlands, but the church community retained its reformed character.[3][4]

On 20 August 2024 the church was destroyed by a fire.[5][6] Flames came out of the roof together with a lot of smoke was released. The fire brigade prevented the fire from spreading to other buildings. After the fire was extinguished, only the brick facades were left and the entire building was considered lost. Because the church was not a listed building, it was decided to demolish the church.[7]
