Roman timekeeping

hour system where a day is divided into 24 hours: 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness

The Romans were pioneers in the creation of modern timekeeping. They were the first to give a name to the days of the week, naming them after their gods. They revolutionised the idea of using the sun and the light to keep a record of the hours in a day.
