Ruyan was the name of a district with many mountains that went around the western part of Tabaristan which is in Iran.
In Persian mythology, Ruyan shows up as one of the places where Arash shot his bow from, which reached the edge of Khorasan to make a border between Iran and Turan.[1][2]
