Screen test

the practice or evaluation of actors, make-up, and lighting in film

Screen tests is a method to test actors for a role in a film. It is like an audition. Candidates have to perform a scene. Sometimes they prepare their own script. Other times they have to read a script at sight ("cold reading"). Screen tests are often recorded—directors and producers then watch the recordings and decide who fits the role.[1]
