Self-help book

book that is written with the intention to instruct its readers on solving personal problems

A self-help book is written in a way that its reader can relate to himself/herself and solve his/her problems as guided by the author of the book.[1]

A self-help book is written to counsel its readers on solving their personal issue or problems in life. The phrase "Self-Help" comes from an 1859 best-seller by Samuel Smiles. "Self-improvement" is a modern version of the term self-help.
